Season Round-Up

Edzell CC AGM 2006

Secretary Ron has prepared the following up date. Please note his comments looking for club players for the RCCC Area 9 Top Ten and the FCC Closing bonspiel.

We are fast approaching the end of the curling season and it is great to see the club participate in some of the finals. We have once again won our way to the final of the Dewar Trophy and this will be played on Monday 19th March 2012 at 3.15pm. We have had great success in this competition and we are going for 10 wins in a row. A pool of 5 players has participated in this competition...namely Gordon Craik, Ron Caithness, Mike Ferguson, Robert Miller and Colin Inglis.

We also came out on top in our section of the Ferburn Trophy and this final will be played next Tuesday at 8.15pm. The team that carried us to the final were Ron Caithness, Mike Ferguson, Robert Miller and Dean Greig. We wish them well in the final.

Edzell are also proud winners of the Callander Trophy beating Letham Grange in the final. From being 7-1 up to going down the last 7-7 it was nail biting stuff but the team rose to the challenge and came out victors in the end winning 8-7. Well done to Ron Morrison, Shaun Smith, Mike Ferguson & Gordon Craik (Skip) who played the final game with other members (whose names escape me - you know who you are) playing in the knockout stages.

The Ferguson Quaich is now underway and looking at the scores of the first game, Alistair Inglis team and Jo Fletcher's team had a very close match. This is a 3 match round robin and is an exciting competition to round off our domestic leagues.

Speaking of leagues, congratulations to Gordon and his rink of Shaun Kelly, Garry Ross and Kelly Greig for winning our main league. This was closely competed throughout the season but Gordon managed to pull away towards the end and even managed to get a defeat at the hands of Bob's team in their final game without affecting their position......obviously relaxed too much or Bob just determined to get that runner up spot.

The Inglis Cup was very very close and came down to the wire when Murray's team of Jenni/James,Garry and Kelly defeated the 'Stevies' of the club...Stephen/Steven ,Russell, Douglas and Hilary in a very close match. Both teams had the same points and Murray won by virtue of a better ends position.

The season is still not over and we have a friendly against Dun next week and to close our curling activities for the season, we still have the Area 9 Top Ten Challenge and the closing bonspeil. Our club has entered both competitions.

The Top Ten takes place on Sunday 25th March and we need a team of 10 to compete.....starts with bacon rolls !!!! and it is a wonderful team event with various formats being played. The closing bonspeil takes place on Saturday 31st March and we would welcome your participation.

Ron is phoning around to get names but why not be in first and phone your secretary to confirm your willingness to participate.

The Annual General Meeting will be held in late April but this is still to be arranged and we are still looking at the possibility of a curlers court on Saturday 21st April.....watch the blog for more information.

Yours in Curling

Ron Caithness
